Shielding tag game: one player holding the ball with his/her hands and all the other players dribbling the soccer ball. Player holding the ball is the tagger and need to run around the field and throw the ball at the other player's balls. If the player get tagged (the tagger ball hits the player ball), someone will need to "save" them (nutmegs).

Switch tagger by time, 40s-1 min

Coaching points: explain to the kids that they can put the body to cover the ball and protect it. They can also, when the tagger is coming, put their arms up to increase the distance between defender(tagger) and the object(the ball).

Time: 10-12 min

Players split in squares with 3 players: A pass the ball; B must receive it and shield; C is the "passive defender". Player will shield the ball and turn to pass by the defensive player and or will return the pass to A, recycling the play (the player will make the choice, and every ball they can make different choices). Defender will only do a shadow, maybe a little pressure in the back, but with no intentions to steal the ball. After 1:30 minutes, they switch spots (A-b, B-C, C-A).

Progression:

- now defender can steal the ball. Player shielding the ball gets +2 point if he/she shields it, turn and pass by the defender, or +1 if they hold the ball for 3 seconds and recycle it.

- now player that had passed the ball, makes a forward run outside the square to be a passing option; if player with the ball hold for 3s and give the pass, gets +1. +2 if they turn and pass by the defender by him/herself.

Time: 15 minutes

Now, in the same set up, players are in two teams playing against each other. Attacking team serves the ball inside the square; player needs to receive it, shield it and make a turn to go out of the square:

- if they use the sides of the square to scape, +1 point

- If they pass by the defender and go all the way in the opposite side, +3.

Team with more points in the end, wins the game.

Rounds: 2 minutes each. Two rounds each team

Time: 10 minutes

2v1: player pass the ball for a team mate who will receive and shield it. Player that receive the ball decides between passing the ball back for the team mate who is moving, or turn and go by him/herself. Defensive team, if they steal the ball and score in a 1v2 situation, they get +2 points.

Player need to make their own decision and coach should give feedbacks about what choice might be better for each game situation. After a time (3-4 minutes), teams change roles.

Total: 12-15 min

Game time: two teams playing against each other, regular rules. The only difference is: no throw ins. Players will do kick ins, and to put the ball back in the game, they need to pass the ball to someone who is shielding to receive it.
