Skill (20 mins)
Shooting
Mechanics of Shooting
· get body inposition to strike
· angle approach
· non-kicking foot beside ball
· head over ball
· select surface & strike
· follow through
· accuracy (and aim)
Organization - no changes to practice layout required
Time -12-15 minutes, 2-3 minute cycle, enough fora cycle for each player to have a turn
Practice: 2v1, 3v2
Carrying on from the technical drill, group remains split into two groups, one group takes position on cone point A (attack), the other cone point B (defend). There should be more players on A than B
2 players on cone A pass theball towards the between them to the attacking zone (shaded)
Once the play is started by player A, the defender (B) forward to win the ball.
Either player A can take a shot at goal once they have created a chance to shoot.
2 cycles the swap A and B over.
Repeat twice.
Conditions
Shot at goal must be in the attacking zone. Defender to start on goal line and remain with the attacking zone.
Defender must pressure the ball
Progression(s)
Ask players to also use weaker foot
Move to 3(A) v 2(B)
If not working well....
Remove defender
move cones closer to goal
Encourage additional touches to set themselves before shooting
Observation/intervention considerations:
· if players arestruggling or there is lack of movement off the ball to support, stop play and highlight it - group intervention
· when to swapover roles (lengthen if players aren't getting enough repetition to mater the technique
· shorten the time if players are looking tired

Small Sided Game (20 mins)
Organisation
Goal each end already in situ
Area size - 30 x 20 (wider but shorter- more chances to shoot within distance but space to find.)
Players - 5 v 5/ 6 v 6
Time -10-15 minutes then free play football
Equal number of players to each team.
Goals can only be scored fromanywhere.
1 point for shot. 1 for a goal (goal =shot + goal point =2points)
Aim: can you get an early shot in? Can you create space for team mate to get early shots at goal.
Progression
Add additional defender, even number with attacking players
Decrease the half lengths
Limit time individuals have one ball if dribbling too often. 5 second countdown
Reduce width of pitch
If not working well...
Add additional defender toregain, retain the ball.
Increase the width of the pitch
Defenders only block not tackle
Considerations / Observations
Are there enough shots?
Are the players motivated to take the shots and the scoring system?
What is preventing the shots?
Are they performing the technique well under the emphasis of an early shot? If it is rushed and technique is suffering, allow/encourage extra touches.
Are the ability dynamics of the teams preventing shots. is one team of good defenders reducing the opportunity for shots

Organization
Full area size - 30x20
TechnicalArea size - 10(width) x 17(length) (halfway line for length. cones for width
Players- Between,4 and 10 players
Time -12-15 minutes, 2-3minute cycle, enough for a cycle for each player to have a turn
Practice
Group is split into two groups, one group takes position on cone point A, the other cone point B
Players on cone A pass theball towards the 1st player at cone B, they then move forward into theattacking zone(shaded) to receive the ball back and shoot at goal with an earlyshot (can they perform a first time shot or take 1 touch?)
After taking their shot at goal the player returns to join the group at cone B, the passing player on the goal line will join the shooting group at cone A.
After each cycle player groups alternate the shooting point from cone A to B, varying the angle of shot at goal.
Conditions
To have as few touches as possible before taking the shot at goal.
Progression(s)
Aim for one touch pass and finish
Ask players to also use weaker foot
Create area cannot shoot in. Encourage early shot
If not working well...
Move the cones closer to attacking zone
Encourage additional touches to set themselves before shooting
Observation considerations:
Coaches position near goalfacing the shooter to observe the technique or alongside (not behind)
· individual feedback to players as they collect ball and return to starting position
· Group feed back during swap over period
