BRIEF:
When controlling counter defence, it is important that your players are aware of what 'side' of the field they are on and where they should be positioned - either on the help side or the ball side of the pitch. On the ball side you want your players front marking and stepping towards the ball. On the help side you want your players to come in-field and hold a zone on the inside of the attacker they are marking.
DRILL: 4vs3
Player A and B pass the ball between each other (focus on good ball pace here). They need to make more than 3 passes before the ball may be passed forwards.
The attacking players at C stay in their channels and the defensive players either man mark or come inside and hold a zone in the centre of the field, depending which side the ball is on.
As A and B pass the ball forwards, the defenders step to try win the ball and the attackers attempt to score. If the defenders (in yellow) step and win the ball, the three of them attempt to score in the goals at X.
A and B get involved after they pass the ball forward!

Transfer defence (30 mins)
7 v 8 Defensive Overload.
Focus on pacey transferring of ball, patience to wait for spaces.
Players are 'safe' when transferring outside the 25, but if they carry or receive the ball in the 25 they can be engaged by defence
Looking to work on transitional defensive marking to different channels and if they win the ball, encourage pace of counter-attack to carry out of 25 and attack either goals with goalkeeper (5 points score) or outside goals (dribble/pass to another player for 3points).
Attacking team are underloaded trying to score a goal, 3 points for a corner and 5 for a goal - Focus on retaining ball in the circle to achieve OUTCOMES
Players can switch in and out of D to become back 4 or promote to become back 2
