DIscovery 4v2 (25 mins)

Discovery Phase 4v2 - Two sided possession game.

RED = Coached Team

BLUE = CDM (Active Player) Can play on both sides of the square.

BLACK = Defending Team - Win the Ball and go to goal.

Set Up:

Reds keep possession unti they can switch to the other reds, only Blue (CDM) can transition across. Blacks should always have 2 in the side where the ball is and 2 zonal in the middle with 1 left in the side without the ball. 2 Zonal defenders try to stop penetration and 1 remaining defenders blocks the direct pass is possible, if blacks win the ball they go to goal.

Coaching Points:

- Use Holding Midfielder to Unbalance defending team

- Interchange, how can one players movement effect anothers (i.e. Centre Back pulls wide creates space for CDM to drop in and recieves and pushes full back higher up the field)

- First option should always be forward (don't overteach passing sideways/backwards).

Technical (25 mins)

Simple Technical Passing Exercise, progressions dictated by the coach.

Rotation just follow alphabetically on the illustration (simple clockwise rotation), attacking mid (CAM) becomes the holding mid (CDM).

Coach should emphasize tempo and quality of pass, maybe a timed challenge could be implemented.

Tactical 8v6 + GK's (35 mins)

3-4-3 Formation.

Here we talk tactically about the relationship and interchnage of the outside back, wingback and attacking midfielder.

Ball must be played into the shaded area to go through on goal, only the WB's can joing the attack to create a 4v2 to goal.

IDEA's not MUST's - give players freedom to react with movement do not tell them they must go here or there, players have to be versatiles with their movement and it should happen naturally and in the flow of the game.

Idea A - Centre back stays in the inside channel so wing back gives width allowing attacking midfielders to come into a pocket of space and link the play into the hoding midfielder, WB reads the cues of the game as the ball travels into the CAM he/she starts to make a third man run keeping the width as CAM isnt provinding any width.

Idea B - Centre back moves into a wider area and therefore allows the WB to go central dragging a defender or a holding midfielder with him opening up the channel for a direct ball into onrunning CAM, this run could also come from the FWD is the CAM stays central.

Coaching points:

- Encourage interchange

- Coach the cues of the game - CB Wide, WB Central to free unbalance etc...

- Coach the two CDM's to be on an angle, one in one out.

- Poss vs Penetration

- Movement of Att players when building out of the back.

- Communication (key to successful interchange).
