DEFENDERS BUILD UP (15 mins)

Method: Back 4  Passing within the unit 

Recycling the ball, play from side to side through both CB'S or skipping one, PLAYERS MOVING UP THE PITCH.

OBJECTIVE:

Players to understand their positioning on the pitch when playing out, movement on and off the ball, distances between the players.

3v3+2 on 4 small goals (15 mins)

Time: 15mins (3x4min game) Method:3v3

The aim of the game is to score on one of the small goal, both teams attacking directional.

3 players from the same team can't be on the same half at the same time.

Both teams can use neutral players on the end line, neutral players can only play two touch.

  • relation between central midfielders, positioning on the pitch, distance, angles, support, triangle shape.
  • combination play/use of different scenarios
  • movement in between the lines to receive the ball
  • use of neutral players (they are replicating CF and CB)

Passing pattern- Full team (20 mins)

Method: This warm up introduces team shape, movement and technique to be able to play out from the back.

Time: 15min 

Flat markers placed to provide the team with shape to play out from the back. 

Goalkeeper starts with the ball each side and is passed through the left or right hand side respectively.

Left Side: GK plays to Left Centre Back (5). 

Left Centre Back plays to Left Back (3).

Left Back plays inside to any of the Midfielders (6, 8 or 10). Midfielder in possession finds Left Forward (11), who either plays into the Centre Forward (9) in the target area or into the overlapping/underlapping Left Back (3) to play into the Centre Forward (9).

Right Side: GK plays to Right Centre Back (4). Right Centre Back plays to Right Back (2). Right Back plays inside to any of the Midfielders (6, 8 or 10). Midfielder in possession finds Right Forward (7), who either plays into the Centre Forward (9) in the target area or into the overlapping/underlapping Right Back (3) to play into the Centre Forward (9).

  • Progress to 1 x ball and whole team connects and moves to play out from the back with the condition that the ball must reach both sides before it is played into the Centre Forward (9)

Coaching Points:

  • POSSESSION: order to create chances in the offensive third, players should simulate when to pass or dribble to move the team forwards.

  • AWARENESS OF MOVEMENTS; Utilising space and triangulate in unit and team movement, players need to create passing options ahead of the ball to unbalance and disorganise the opponent by creating diagonal passing lines and communicating.

  • EXPLOITING SPACE: Use a variation of runs, spread out and occupy the space based on positions. Players need to try and get behind/between the defensive line(s) of the opponent/mannequins by recognise when and how to exploit the opponent when unbalanced/disorganised.

Main Part - 3 progression (20 mins)

Method: 7v7 Phase of play

Build up play through the left side of the pitch with transition to defence.

Coaching Points:

  • communication
  • distances and angles of support
  • quality of the pass
  • movement to receive the ball
  • rotation between '10' and '11' to create space to receive the ball.
  • creative movement by '6' to support the play and loose the marker: "show to go/go to show"

Blue Team- Playing out from the back with T2D

Formation: 1-4-3-1

Red Team- Defending from the front with T2A

Formation: 1-2-3-3

Coaching Points

  • communication
  • open body shape when receiving the ball
  • quality of the pass
  • checking shoulder
  • decision making
  • movement to create space/receive the ball
  • GK to make good decision where to pass the ball depending on opponent's position on the pitch.(Pass to CB'S, FB'S, CM'S)
  • CB's with open body position to be able to play forward with at least two passing options (to FB or CM'S)
  • FB'S to play on the touch line to give max width, move along the line.
  • rotation between '6', '8' and '10' to create space and open passing lines
  • '9' to stay high to give depth, move across the pitch as the ball travels
  • Opposite FB, CB to tuck in when to ball is played to the other side. 
  • Forward runs to support the attack/receive the ball.
  • If the forward pass is not ON, can we recycle the play and try to unbalance the opposition.
