Two Gates (10 mins)
Organization
- Set up two cone gates 10 yards apart on one of the lines
- Do the same at the opposite end of the field
- At one end of the field, have Player 1 between the cones
- At the other end, have Player 2 between the cones
Activity
- Player 1 starts the session by stepping out of the line. This is the player 2 trigger to step out to defend
- Player 1 attempts to run through either of player 2 gates
- If player 1 is successful, they get the point. If player 2 can tag the attacker before they get through, they get the point
Progression
- If player 2 can tag the attacker, they then become the attacker straight away and attempt to attack the gates at the opposite end of the field.
- The next player in line at the #1 end steps out to defend
- If player 2 is successful the session starts again with the next #1 starting off the session, however, if player 2 is tagged the number #1 continues the session by attacking the opposite end with the next player 2 stepping out.
Progression
- Add the ball and work through the progressions.
Coaches Emphasis
- Use disguise to create space
- Use changes in speed and direction to be effective
- Keep the ball tight when dribbling
- Stay alert
- Attack at speed

Technical Practise: Continuous 1v1 with Scoring Zone
This practice will help develop your player's understanding of how to apply immediate pressure on the ball after a turnover in possession.
Set-Up
Set-up the practice as seen in the above image.
The first player dribbles unopposed into the end zone and can score in either goal.
After taking their shot the player must now turn and defend against the first player from the opposite group.
The shot triggers the 2nd player to start, they must attempt to cross into the end zone and score into either goal.
After their shot, the blue player now turns to defend and the first red player collects their ball and joins the end of their queue.
The sequence continues.
Rule: The winner stays on. For example, if the red player is defending, and they win the ball and score into one of the top two goals, they stay on the pitch and now defend against the next blue.
Key Coaching Points
Positive Reaction to Losing the Ball
After having taken their shot the player must show a desire to win the ball back for their team, they must put immediate pressure on the ball in an attempt to regain possession.
Body Shape and Movement
The player who is defending must angle their run in an attempt to show the defender away from the center of the pitch and guide them into a wide area. Once close they must also angle their body to keep the defender going in that direction and not allow them to come back inside.
Sharp Change of Direction
The player defending must be able to react quickly to a change of direction from the attacker by keeping the weight on the balls of their feet. They must move their feet quickly to maintain an angled body shape and continue to force the attacker away from the center of the pitch.

Technical Practise: Running with the Ball
This practice encourages your players to attack with speed before the defender can recover, your players will develop their running with the ball and 1v1 skills.
Set-Up
Key Coaching Points
Quick and Direct Play
Attackers should take a positive first-touch forward run with the ball at speed. Players should look to be positive in possession and cross the halfway line before the defender recovers.
Running with the Ball
To attack at speed the attacker should drive with their laces, pointing their toe to the floor and taking big touches into the space in front. They must ensure the ball is at a safe distance should they need to protect and shield the ball.
Protecting the Ball
If the defender gets alongside, the attacker should use their arm and body to protect the ball (hand-hip-hide) and attempt to dribble and shoot using the safe side.
Progressions

Technical Practise - Two Directional Continuous 1v1
Teach your players how to be positive and direct within a 1v1, your players will learn how to establish the triggers to play quickly and direct on the transition of gaining the ball as well as skills to use within a 1v1.
Set-Up
Key Coaching Points
Quick & Direct Play
The attacker must be ready to react following the defender’s shot. The attacker should drive out quickly and attack at speed in an attempt to finish without allowing the defender to get close and stop the shot.
Running with the Ball
To attack at speed the attacker should drive with their laces, pointing their toe to the floor and taking big touches into the space in front. They must ensure the ball is at a safe distance should they need to protect and shield the ball.
Use both Feet
To improve balance in the attackers and make their play unpredictable, encourage players to use both feet when running with the ball and execute moves to go past the defender on both the left and right.

Kill: Individually - Technical Practice
To improve attacking at speed, use this practice to understand when to draw in defenders and use skills to then pass forward to find a free player.
Set-Up
Set up the practice as seen in the above image.
Players start by running with the ball at the defender (mannequin) to then perform a skill and find space (to the right). Once this has happened, the player passes to the receiver who has created an angle.
The attacker then performs the same exercise, in the opposite way.
Key Coaching Points
To encourage attacking play, players should look to be incisive when attacking the defender (mannequin) to find a space to play the ball forward quickly. Receivers should concentrate on their angle and body shape of receiving the ball to play forward quickly.
To attack with purpose, attackers should play with their head up and stride out to meet the ball and take their first touch out of their feet to engage the opponent (mannequin).
Encourage freedom for players to be creative when attacking with purpose whilst also keeping the objective of the practice in mind.
