Technical Phase
Players in possession look to complete a 4v2 rondo. 10 passes = 1 point, if Defenders win the ball they can score in either pug goal for 2 points. After 2 minutes swap the defenders over keep overall points.
Defenders - look to remain compact reading the first and second defenders press and step.

Functional Phase
Blue team is looking to complete 3 passes then break out of the grid to score on the goal. If this happens the small square is forgotten, if red win the ball at any stage they are looking to counter into the small goals. Blue team have a CB they can play back too.
Red team - look to maintain their compact shape, forcing play negative and winning any counter. Red team the 9 is connected to the 6/8 but can not come into the grid to begin with.

End Game.
Players are split into two teams. Challenge one team (the focus group) to work on defending in a low block in the middle third. When the opposition have the ball they are to use the line of confrontation to guide their defensive shape. Notice the red team is compact with space inbetween lines. After 10 minutes swap the roles of each team.
