Warm up 1 v 1's, 1v 2's, Striking (10 mins)
Continue within area - move into 1v1's, recovery into transition out of possession. High intensity for players and GK.
Layout:
One goal GK at one end (or place cones in corners for extra points in this area)
3 cones for starting positions at opposite end. Players stand at either cone A, B or C to begin.
Drill Description.
Play 1: Player A has one touch out of feet then strikes early.
Play 2: Player A then becomes defender Player B dribbles the ball to beat the defender finish in 1v1.
Play 3: Player B then becomes the defender Player C enters with ball to create a 2v1 with Player A as team mate.
Players rotate positions.
Progressions:
Second defender - 2v2.
Use cone for player from position C to run around - getting wide for cross.
Key Coaching Points:
Work through mechanics.
Consider different types of finishes, if the player is far out then encourage the shots to be powerful with laces. If the attacker is closer to the goal encourage the attacker to place the ball into the goal.
Touch out from feet: Players should take a heavy touch out of their feet in order to strike the ball cleanly.
How to create shooting opportunity - do you have to go past the defender? Can player shift the ball to create space to shoot or provide team mate with opportunity.
