Picture 1: Centre back overlaps
Ball goes to the wing back either directly from the centre back or from a central midfielder, Centre back then makes a run outside of the wing back (who moves infield) looking to receive the ball again in a crossing position.
Combination options to go through:
CB-WB-CB
CB-deeper MF-WB-CB
CB-deeper MF-WB-MF-CB
CB-MF-WB-CB
Emhasise speed of passing and combinations (one/two touch) with accuracy.
If centre back does get in crossing position run through the options of the cross: drive to six yard box, pull back to penalty spot or stand up to back post. Work with forwards and advanced midfieldrs to make the relevant runs.
Deeper midfielder can drop into defense to provide cover and balance as the centre back goes forward and also during the build up to speed up the passing and allow the centre back to advance earlier.

Picture 2: Centre back underlaps or drives into central space
The centre back could either drive forward with the ball into the central space in front of him - wing back stays wide to create space - then the centre back looks to combine with central midfielders and forwards
Or the centre back can play into the wing back and then run inside and beyond him to recieve another pass.

Picture 3: Centre forward comes short to receive pass from centre back
The centre back plays the ball into the nearside centre forward who has come short. Centre back immediately follows the pass. Centre forward sets the ball to a wing back or midfielder who then plays the ball down the side for the centre back to run onto.
Again, there will be opportunities to coach the crossing and finishing options as already outlined.

Picture 4: Centre back plays ball to centre forward down channel.
Wing back holds the width to occupy the full back and create space in the channel for the centre forward to exploit. The centre back then plays the ball into the space.
Nearside centre forward runs down the channel. If he's on can he be played in?
If not and centre back has been pulled out as shown in diagram can the ball be played between the centre backs for the other centre forward to get in.
Forwards could initially show short and then spin into the channel.
Shape of the pass: bend/angle it into the path of the forward using inside or outside of foot. Straight pass with laces more difficult to find forward. some backspin on pass by hitting under the ball also useful to get the ball to hold up for the forward and prevent it running to the goalkeeper/out of play.
If the forward does receive the ball in the wide channel can he work space for a cross? Other centre forward should attack the front post space, weak side wing back the far post with a midfielder arriving for a cut back to the penalty spot.
Finishing:
Throughout the session, emphasise calmness in front of goal - take time to gain composure, aim for the corners, use instep unless power is essential.

Set up as shown. Blue (coached team) 2-4-2 vs red (managed team) 1-3-4-1. Right side of the pitch is cut off to remove blue right centre back and wing back and red left back and left forward. Red line across the pitch is a guide for the red team to get back behind (apart from the centre forward) into a defensive block.
Start point: centre back passes the ball to the left centre back. Or to the deeper midfielder who drops in.
Blues aim to score in the main goal. Reds defend and then attack either the main goal (1 touch finish) or the small wide goal.
