Basic drills for controlling the ball when the ball is in the air.

Setup:
20x20 area with 6 cones around the area.
A player on each cone holding a ball.
Rest of the players inside the area receiving the ball.
Depending on number of players, have more players on the outside than inside.
How it works:
Players on the inside run up to a player on the outside and ask to receive the ball.
The outside player then throws the ball to the player who asked for it.
The player then controls the ball and passes it back to the player on the outside.
If necessary players can head the ball back.
Coaching points:
Read the height of the ball and judge which part of the body is best. (High pass = Head, If its in the air but not don't need to head it, use chest etc).
Cushion the ball, do not aim to hit the ball.
Make sure ball is completely under control before passing back.

How it works:
Same rules as previous however add 2 defenders in the area to apply passive pressure to inside players. (Passive pressure, meaning not trying to steal the ball just getting close to players, like it was an in game situation).
The defender moves from player to player around the area.
Change it to actual pressure after a few rounds.
Coaching Points:
Use body to protect the ball as its coming to you
Use arms to box out and shield defender to control the ball
Quick pass after control.
Players must scan their surroundings making sure they know if the defenders are coming to apply pressure.

Make a row of 5x5 boxes using cones for each player you have.
Make 2 rows parallel to each other.
How it works:
Player take turns throwing the ball to one another. Before throwing the ball the player must shout the body part they want their partner to control the ball with. Head, chest, thigh, foot.
