Midfield Press - 4-5-1 Shape Work (30 mins)
Defending - 4-5-1 - The Midfield Press (Middle Zone Press)
8 v 8 + 2 GK's = 18 players
Red Team set up - GK, 2 CB's, 3CM's, 2 Wingers and 1 CF (coaching)
Blue Team set up - GK, Back 4, 3 CM's and 1 CF.
* Middle Zone - Midfield Zone is where we want to press the opposition and try to win the ball. (Midfield Press)
* Initially opposition GK plays a pass out to CB's or FB's. This can then progress to 4 or 5 playing a
long ball into into opposition CB's and playing live on first touch.
* 9 to stay in zone 1 and will be the trigger for the press.
* 11 & 7 drop into "midfield press zone" initially inviting play on to them but should press the FB on
their first touch or as the FB carries the ball forward.
* 10, 6 & 8 drop into "midfield press zone" as this is where we want to win the ball back and then
exploit the space in behind the opposition (counter attack) Invite the opposition into the "midfield
press zone" then press.
* 4 & 5 to stay in zone 2 unless play dictates they can step in and win the ball in the "midfield press
zone"
* 11 & 7 to stay in wide zones unless necessary to tuck infield to help out MF3 and become compact
and narrow.
* When Red Team win the ball back they have 10 seconds to try and score. Function then restarts.
* Red Team MF 3 have maximum 3 touches to encourage moving the ball quickly.
