Rotations in possession
Rotation 1 (Red movement in to positions) Right sided example, same system applies for left.
Rotation means formation moves into GK2314 as once ball has been played forward on the low cm side, he steps up into balanced position
GK
2- LCB,RCB
3- WB-CM-CM
1 - AM
4 WM-ST-WM-WB
This is an on the ball rotation
- CM moves alongside CB to play out with ball, play forward move forward if momentum is in attack, otherwise hold for player to turn back.
- Wing back moves forward
- Wide midfielder comes into pocket
- AM Comes to play lower in the space made and has license to play or drive forward and join in.
- LM (Opposite WM moves in to play off striker or make runs in to box depending on intensity of attack, movement in and forwards depends on intensity and success of attack/playing out, this is a drift into position to be reactive and be able to position yourself again should attack break down)
-LWB (Opposite WB moves forward and wide, height and intensity of movements depends on intensity of attack, this is a drift into position to be reactive and be able to position yourself again should attack break down)
-ST stretch the line with short diagonal run and open space between opposition defence and midfield line for wide midfielders and AM to play in, you may also receive the ball, the inital 5 yard run wide has to come regardless, ideally when the wing back is on the ball

Rotation 1 (Red movement in to positions) Right sided example, same system applies for left.
Rotation means formation moves into GK2314
Variation 1
AM Drops low to combine from CBopposite cm moves up into AM position to play off striker
if AM receives and turns to drive with ball, opposite side CM cant push up and holds central position, ball side cm has to move into standard offensive marking position
Variation 2 (shown in green) only opposite cm moves differently- the opposite sided cm has the option to drift into the left wing back area as apposed to pushing into the 10 space, but must bring the WM infield into the 10 area, and send the full back high and wide. this is only when the AM has combined and held a covering position. this then leaves us GK2314
2 (CB,CB)
3 (LCM, RCM, AM)
1 (WM)
4 (WB, ST, WM, WB)

Rotations in possession
Rotation 3 (Red movement in to positions) Right sided example, same system applies for left.
Rotation means formation moves into GK2314.
This is more fixed than a rotation as we play out from our base formation
-CB Can play in to either CM-CM looks to play full back or Wide midfielder (full back overlaps regardless)
midfield shift across
-Wing backs must anticipate they can receive from the CM, as well as the CB on the ball and position accordingly allowing us to put momentum into our attack should the CM receive and look to play out 1 touch to the Wing Back.
-CM can also look to turn and play direct into wide midfielder who has free'd himself in a pocket, Full back must again react before the pass and begin to overlap/move forwards, IF THE CM HAS TIME TO TAKE A TOUCH AND TURN, THE PASS INTO THE WIDE MIDFIELDER MOVING INTO A POCKET IS THE PASS WE NEED TO LOOK TO MAKE, MEANING A 3RD MAN RUN ON THE OVERLAP FROM THE WING BACK, This will often occur when receiving from the opposite CB after probing down one side and beginning to shift the ball across.

GK1433 (GK14213)
GK - Look to play out from the back when possible, be confident as well in hitting the furthest man forward thats available . be confident in stepping up to play with the ball, and keeping both center backs wide, this helps when pressed one side, and then switching from side to side more directly. you must communicate this with them and keep them wide (box width)
Wing Backs - Need to be an option to receive from Center back on the ball, and near sided midfielder (be the first option, and the next option) if you play forward, move forward. look to play into center forwards feet if possible as priority 1, failing this, play in to winger and ovelrap, after a forwards pass, move forwards. when playing back in to a center back, be aware that the midfielder on your side may be avaiable to recieve and play back out to you and start an attack. WB/CB/CM/WB Pattern. if in offensive play, the winger comes central, go higher up the field and wide. Anticipate CM's playing direct into a winger moving into a pocket and begin your overlap with intensity. this can come on progressive switches of play, or general build up.
LCM/RCM - look to Combine with full backs when playing out low, fill position once full back plays forwards and moves forward. if pressure is high on your side, come out of the space we are in, and work ball to other side of the field. licensce for 1 to drop alongside center backs in possesion, and send wing back on, and wide midfielder in to pockets. if you have the opportunity to turn and play forward, look to hit the winger moving in to pockets, as the full back will overlap him.
AM - think as a midfielder in build up, forward in the final third. if dropping in to midfield to combine with full backs and start a direct attack e.g playing forward, hold position, and either the opposite sided midfielder or full back will push on. in the final third when striker is high and especially when the full backs are on the ball, look to play off of him and receive to play balls forwards to onward running wide midfielders. if striker drops off the defensive line, look to move forward into the space he has created by drawing a player out.
LM/RM - when playing out on your side as a primary attempt to attack, stay wide. looking to drift into a pocket if it opens space for the wing back to come. if full back has the ball and looks to play into strikers feet, look to make inverted runs behind full back (to receive between full back and centre back) on progressive switches of play, hold in a pocket to create space for the full back to receive the ball, once the full back is pressured by the man screening you, look to run diagnonally wide towards the corner flag to open space central for ST or AM, or to get on the ball wide. Striker on occasion will make this run from the center back wide, and you can hold in the pocket area.
ST - Look to drift between center backs in build up, be a hold up option for passes from the wing backs. make sure the 10 is aware and playing off you, communicate it. if the wide midfielder is on the ball and cutting inside, show and go forward if the pass doesn't come to open space within the third touch. opens space and chances for yourself, or AM and opposite winger. movement shorter to draw defenders out of position and open space along the back line has to be communicated with attacking midfielder. after every pass back, or set, a movement forward to stretch the lines must be made. if you are looking to be an option and that opportunity has gone, new movement to create space.
As a team
- communicate
- play the ball, move forwards
- movement to open space for and others, as well as for yourself
- not on the same lines as carrier (makes 2 options 1)
- intensity on forwards movement has to come before or alongside forwards pass
- read the game ahead, anticipate being the pass after the next pass
