Some of the movement we could see are portrayed here by arrows. The two attacking full backs will be given permission to go forward but must be aware of the cover and not leave us too exposed at the back. The CM is asked to support the attack (black arrow but also asked to sit and cover as shown by the red arrow if we were eventually to lose the ball). The 2 attacking midfielders are asked to support the striker depending on his run if he was to come deep (indicated by the red arrow) both attacking midfielders would be asked to make runs in behind (indicated by the red arrows) to try and exploit the space left from the strikers movement. However if the striker decides to make a run in behind the two attacking midfielders are expected to make wider runs rather than narrow ones (as indicated by the red arrows).

This is a perfect example of how we can move through the thirds by using this example the left centre back has asked for the ball wide and the left wing back has pushed up the pitch. The ball is played out by the keeper to the centre half (indicated with dotted black arrow), the centre half plays it into the left wing back who plays it straight into the left attacking midfielder and supports him by making an overlap (indicated by red arrow). The left attacking midfielder plays it into the left wing back (indicated by the black dotted arrow) the ball is then played into the box (indicated by black dotted arrow).

This now gives us the completed image after all the passes. Notice how the whole team has pushed up with the ball (indicated by red arrows on previous image). Notice also how all players have not left a single gap of corridor between themselves and the player next to them.

In this session we are going to be splitting the pitch into 5 channels and 3 thirds. Players are not allowed to leave a channel empty between themselves and their units as shown by the arrows above. This will teach them how to shift with the ball. I.e if the ball is on the left side like here the RWB tucks in and holds a narrower position same with the RAM. This allows us to be more compact if we were eventually to lose the ball.
