Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): 2023 Line up and positional instructions

2023 Formation

We will be sticking to this formation since we had to most success playing this formation.

out of possession we will use a 4-4-2. In possession the outside midfielders come in a little to make a 4-2-2-2.

Formation strategy:

Essentially this formation we will look to attack through the wide spaces with outside defenders supporting the attack. When we are on defense we want to be compact looking to keep a solid defensive shape to force mistakes. When transitioning  going from defense to attack we want to try and counter attack fast with the two strikers working together with attacking midfield players and possible outside defenders. When we are transitioning to defense, we want to try the win the ball back in 6 seconds as a team. If we are unable to win the bal quickly we start organizing into 4-4-2.

-Focus on understanding your position. You are only responsible for you. Please ask questions.

-focus on offensive and defensive responsibilities.

- Don't be afraid to play free and make good mistakes! (for example, If a 6 makes an attacking run down the middle, a striker will cover for them)

Animation: In possession WE MUST make runs forward on the side to give options to attack. We are the key for our team to attack. That doesn't mean we need to dribble everyone and do too much. We simply need to join the attack as much as possible. If one is attacking the other is shifting and defending.

1- as the ball is being played look to make runs up the field to play give and goes, over laps, or imple dribble forward. Understand we are attacking wide players when we have the ball.

2. Use the middle to dribble into when improvising to find an option. #6 can easily cover for you.

3. Feel free to make runs into the half space when high up the field, again 6 will cover.

4. Make runs past final line to cross or shoot!

Corner kicks

Corner kick set up; CE to cross the ball in air on the 6 yard line. 4 aggressive players than can head the ball look to head the ball down into goal.

4 on 6 yard line that are most aggressive and best at heading.

2 players on 18 yard box looking for second ball to shoot.

1 player on edge of 18 yard line for possible pass to shoot or to drag defenders out of the box.

Once CE puts her hand up, this is the signal that the ball is about to come in the box. thats when we start moving in the box to unorganized the defenders and prepare to head the ball in. AY can swap with S or AS can swap with MC. We want to cause confusion for the defenders and try to make defenders unorganized. We want to PREDICT where the ball will will land and visualize getting a head to the ball and guiding it down to the ground into the goal. Even if we are unable to move due to being heavily guarded, the 6 yard line is the best spot to be on as far as positioning goes. Even if we can not score from the cross, put a body on the defender to cause a mistake that may result in a goal.
