PASSING WARM UP (10 mins)

Time: 10min Area: 3x(10x5m) Players: 18 Method:

3 players start at one end line and another 3 players start opposite 10m apart. In between the two lines is a 2m channel for the players to come and receive the ball in. First player starts with a ball and passes it into the receiving player. Passing player follows their pass into the middle area and receives the ball, turns and plays back to their line. Receiving player turns and passes the ball back to their line and then follows their pass to the line where they started. Players always return to their original line.

Coaching Points:

  • MOVEMENT Players should be encouraged to use short explosive movements to come and receive the ball from their team-mate. Players should use their imagination to push away from a defender at speed to create space to receive the ball.

  • TURNING As the player is approaching to receive the ball, the player should look to be side on and receiving the ball with their back foot. One touch to turn then second touch to pass.

  • COMMUNICATION Encourage all players to shout turn when they are passing the ball into their team-mates. A warm up is a perfect time to get the players into good habits.

Rotation of Mid 3 RONDO (10 mins)

Time: 15mins Players: 12 Area: 26x15m Method:

Area divided in half to provide the Pivot (Blue/Red 6) and Centre Midfielders (Blue/Red 8 and 10) with reference points for when, where and how they can take up positions to dominate possession and advance forwards.

6 x Support Players (Green) positioned along the lines of the area with a 3v3 (Reds v Blues) inside the area. The Midfield 3 for both the Red and Blue teams can play anywhere in the 26x15 area.

Centre Back (Green 5) and Centre Forward (Green 9) can play along the length of their 15m designated line. Full Backs (Green 2 and 3) and Wide Forwards (Green 7 and 11) can play along the length of their 13m line.

Coaching Points:

  • The midfield 3 should look to position themselves in a triangle to create numerical and positional superiority in central areas by overloading zones and attempting to play in between the areas and defenders.

  • Players should maintain diagonal angles and good distances keeping the structure to penetrate effectively by using both areas to offer good shape to play through.

  • In order to support the play, outside players look to provide opportunities to switch play whilst also stretching the opposition to try and create space for the attacking teams to play through.

  • MIDFIELD STRUCTURE Players should maintain diagonal angles and good distances keeping the structure to penetrate effectively by using both areas to offer good shape to penetrate.

  • SUPPORT PLAY In order to support the play, outside players look to provide opportunities to switch play whilst also stretching the opposition to try and create space for the attacking teams to penetrate.
