Description

Improve our players’ ability to play out against a team in a high press (433) so we can get one of our midfielders on the ball in comfortable possession beyond the opp’s midfield defensive line

Passing Pattern 1 (5 mins)

7.5 mins - passing pattern 1 (quarter field)

Players pass and do a dynamic exercise in between markers

Objective is to get a 9 in behind the defence (i.e. WB movement drages the opposition 2/5 out of position and we get the 9 in behind)

Passing Pattern 2 (5 mins)

7.5 mins - passing pattern 1 (half field)

Players pass and do a dynamic exercise in between markers

Objective is to switch play quickly and get the WB in behind the defence via a through ball in between the 3/4 and 2/5

Progression - where applicable, bring in 2 xdefenders into midfield to press and 1 x defender to press the back 3. Now the goal is to switch play and get a 9 or WB in behind

SSGs

3v3 game with floaters at either end. 24m in length and 10m in width. (12-15 mins)

The aim of the game is to hit the feet of the end player before transferring it back the other way.

Rules/Progression

1. if you dribble over halfway you can create a 4v3 in the attacking half of possession. As soon as you lose possession you can stay there for 3 passes, after that you must retreat back into your original half. If the ball is played to the end player, one of the attackers needs to retreat to the other half to ensure it remains a 3v3 at the start.

2. You can now 'drop' into the defensive half to create a 4v3 however if you do so, you lose the ability to create an overload in the attacking half. I.e. it becomes a 2v3 or at most a 3v3 if you dribble over halfway.

3. If you are unable to transfer the play in 4 passes, on the 5th pass a defender can press forward and create a defensive overload

Coaching points:

Generic coaching points – central players

•Receive beyond a defender

•Starting point off the shoulder of a defender or blindside and drop into space

•Play the furthest safest pass – look to cut out a defensive line

•Receive on half turn or facing forward

•Good ball speed

•Lateral movement off the ball high up the pitch to open up passing lanes

Half-field

Organisation/rules 9v8 in 3/5th pitch area with either two wide zones with recievers or goals to pass into.

3 x 10 min games

One team attacks the goals and tries to score and the other the two small goals/zones. If the ball goes out it starts with a GK or the feeder high up the pitch.

While these two teams play, there is another 8 players doing football conditioning with Augusto

Progressions

Depending on success rates can reduce the touch limit to the team playing out from the back to 2-touch

Coaching Cues

•If the opposition’s 7/9/11 press high up on our CBs 1v1, then LCB and RCB drop beyond the box. If not then LCB and RCB seek to receive ball from GK beyond their 9 and dribble into space

•To start any pattern CB starts off centre to open up passing lane to a 6/8

•As the CB moves 6/8 should drop into space to receive a pass beyond the first line of defence

•Starting positions of 6/8/10 should mean that they can drop in blind side of their defender and receive on half turn

•If the 6/8 don’t receive then they need to rotate high and allow other 6/8 to get into a space to receive a pass – i.e don’t stand still and clog up passing lanes

•If SW, LCB or RCB starts to dribble into midfield and beyond their first line of defence, one of 6/8 should come underneath the ball to position themselves for a switch pass. In this scenario, the LWB and RWB should stay as high as possible

oIf a midfielder gets dragged toward the RCB/LCB/SW then the 6/8/10 should seek to receive beyond this first defender and in a position to face forward

• If LCB or RCB are under pressure in possession, the LWB or RWB needs to drop in to create an angle for a pass

•As the ball travels to the LWB and RWB one of the 6/8 should provide a passing option If underneath the ball and the 10 high. The other 6/8 should balance the midfield and provide an option to switch the point of attack.

•If the opposition 2/5 has been dragged out of position by the LWB/RWB then as the ball travels from LWB/RWB to 6/8 or 10 the 9s should make a run into the channel and space created by this movement

•If any of the CBs are under pressure the 6 and 8 should seek to position themselves off the shoulder of the first line of defenders and in a passing lane where they can receive a pass. ideally they should also seek to receive a pass beyond the opposition 10/8

•If the 6/8 are marked tightly they should pull their markers wide and rotate with the 10 to allow her to drop into a passing lane

•As the 10 comes to receive the ball, the 6 and 8 should position themselves to receive a backward pass if she is under pressure from the opposition 6 and can’t face forward. If she can face forward one of the 6/8 should make a third man run beyond the 10 and the other sit to balance off midfield

•If one of the 3 CBs are in possession and we can’t play or dribble beyond the first line of defence, they should seek to switch the point of the attack either through the SW or GK.
