Topic: Building out when being forced to play back to the keeper.
Goal: Be able to play out from the back when facing own goal under high pressure.
Attacking Tactical Team Principles: Spread out, Create 2v1, Triangulate the ball
Defending Tactical Team Principles: Make it compact, Keep it compact, Pressure the player on the ball with cover and balance
Who: #1 #2 #3 #4 #5 #6
What: Improve build-up in own half to progress the ball
Where: Defensive Third
When: As we are facing our own goal in the defensive third
Why: The opponent is forcing us back, can we play back open up and then progress the ball forward
Coaching Points: In the activity, we want to make it as game realistic as possible. As the ball travels back to the keeper we need both teams to sprint down the field. The team in possession is looking to quickly open up so they can build up and the defending team wants to win the ball high up the field. Jump in with coaching moments, especially paint-the-picture moments to show the problem and how to solve it.
Technical Points: As the team in build-out plays the ball back to the keeper they need to open up their hips in order to receive on the backfoot so they can play forward.
Guided Questions:
1. If the Blues are cutting off the field what should we try and do? Switch the point of the attack to the open side of the field.
2. Who can we use to switch the point of attack when building out? The goalie can be used as a pivot to switch the ball from one side to the other. As well as the #6
Player Actions:
1. As the ball travels to the Goalie the #4 and #5 need to sprint down and open up their hips so they can receive on their backfoot and play forward.
2. The #2 and #3 need to stay wide in order to create width for the team.
3. #6 needs to escape from the opposing team's #10 to be an option in possession.

Activity:
In this activity, we are working on build-up when facing our own goal. Both teams will start near the halfway line and the game will start when the in-possession RED team passes the ball back to their goalie. The in-possession RED team is looking to sprint down and open up to receive the ball back from the goalie. The REDs are then looking to find the target player to get a point. The blues will also sprint down the field to block off passes and put on pressure and when they steal the ball they are looking to score on into the goal.

Orientation Phase (15 minutes or however long it takes to bring out problem)
In the orientation phase, we are working with the blues (orientation team) to bring out the problem. We want to make it extremely difficult for the red team when building out. We want to aggressively pressure the ball as it goes back and forces their decision-making to be extremely fast. Since the Blues will be outnumbered in this part of the field we want to force play wide to either the #2 or the #3 to use the sideline as an extra defender when pressing. As the ball travels from the goalie to a red center back can the #9 pressure the center back to play the ball out to the #2 or #3. Can they then curve their pressing run so they can't play back out the other way? The blues want to cut the field in half. See animation for visual.
Guided Questions:
Where do we want to force play and then press? Want to force play wide to use the sideline as an extra defender.
As a striker how do you want to press? As I press can I curve my run so they can't play back the way they just came from?

Learning Phase (35 Minutes)
Now that we have created the problem we are now working with the red team who are the learning team. Since we are being forced wide by the blues who are trying to cut the field in half we want to able to switch play. Can the centerbacks create depth when the #2 and #3 get the ball to be a passing option also can the goalie get off their line to be a passing option to create a numeric superiority? The reds will then look to find the open side of the field as the blues will be compact when pressing. Can we hit the target player as early as possible?
Guided Questions:
If the Blues are cutting off the field what should we try and do? Switch the point of the attack to the open side of the field.
Who can we use to switch the point of attack when building out? The goalie can be used as a pivot to switch the ball from one side to the other.

Implementation Phase (20 Minutes)
In the implementation phase, we are looking to see if we can use what we just learned in a game. When either team is getting pressed hard while facing their own goal can they play back and quickly open up in order to play forward again? After this can we play out to the open side of the field to find our striker the target player? Identify moments when this is achieved.

Warm Up
Warm Up (20 Minutes 10x2)
In the warm-up phase, players will go through their dynamic stretches to start off practice. This should go through all major dynamic stretches throughout their body. 2x repetition per stretch.
Following their dynamic stretches have the players get into groups of 6 and play 2v2 rondo games with two target players. In this exercise, we are looking to play the target player as if they are a goal keeper and then quickly open up the field in order to play forward again.
