Build up play with target players (15 mins)
Divide players into two teams:
2 Center backs from each team outside the field on opposite sides. 4 midfielders each play inside the area.
Play is directional and players try to combine starting from the center backs through the area to a target player (CB from the other team) on the opposite side.
If successful, play starts from the other side with the other team trying to combine across again.
Play should be continuous and moving fast pace.
CB's can not enter the field and can not be pressured.
If ball is turned over, ball has to be played back to the CB's first.
If the ball goes out, always start with the CB's.
- Players should try to get the ball to the target players as quickly as possible but be patient in possession and wait for opportunities to play forward.
- Encourage switching the point of the attack through the CB's
- Firm and accurat passes
- Communication!
- Look over your shoulders to see the field
- Positive first touches into space.
- Quick combination play in the midfield.
Progression:
CB's are allowed to enter the field when in possession, to create an overload in the middle.
