Cone off an area between the 18 yard line and the bottom of the centre circle (shaded).
Black team attack from the centre circle - coaches play as crossers in the outside channels.
Work on defensive elements of a low block against opposition attacking through the middle and have to adjust to deal with crosses when the ball goes wide..

Playing Activity (15min)
Keep same teams as previous exercise. Attacking team builds up attack. The defending team must defend the cross and attempt to score on the 3 gates representing entry balls, small goals

3v3 Defending Crosses (25 mins)
Setup:
Team of defenders (Back 4 and #6's) and Team of attackers
Field setup as shown with wide channels & counter goals
Activity:
Attacking team plays a combo to get a player out wide for cross into box.
Defending team defends the cross and attempts to score in counter goals.
Each group attacks/defends from right & left before rotating.
Progressions:
~ Allow winger to play early, diagonal cross
Coaching Points:
+ Pressure / cover on initial combination play into channel then immediate recovery.
+ Near post runner is most dangerous, central runner is next, far post runner next, etc.
+ Goalkeeper must be aware of targets to anticipate where cross is likely to be played.
