Specific Practice

Practice Targets:

Specific Practice focusing on Creating and Exploiting Overloads. Reds are trying to create an overload in the blue half by committing players forward to create the overloads and score in their goal. Blues have 7 seconds to score in mini goals after regaining possession.

Formation:

Reds - 1-4-3-3-without 2 FB's

Blues - 1-4-3-3 without 2 Wingers

Conditions:

Play restarts from either Red CB everytime

Coaching Points - Coached Team (Red Team):

Fast ball speed into players backfoot to isolate the full back

Use spare man in 2v1's to overload the space

Late runs from Left and Right CM's to crash the box from crosses

Opposition Management (Blue Team)

Compact shape with no more than 10 yards between lines

Force attacking team to play around or over

Return to starting positions within 5 seconds of ball going dead

Problems& Solutions:

Opposition midfielders cover the 2v1 to make 2v2's - Use 3rd man runs from teammates to keep the overload and fill in the positions of the support player (e.g. LW goes over to ST if ST makes a 3rd man run for RW)

Blue Team compact central areas - use 2v1 overloads with Overlaps & Underlaps to enter the box

Reference points/Pitch Geography:

CB's start deepest point of field and as wide as 18 yard box

CM's 18 yards outside of the box and as wide as 6 yard box

AM starts central 5 yards behind CF

Wingers start outside 18 yard box and wider than the box

CF starts in between 2 blue CB's
