Setup:
20x20 grid split down middle
2 teams of 6. Goalies optional (use poles if no goalies)
2 attackers on endline, 1 defender in middle
Activity "A":
Player with ball engages the defender while 2nd attacker overlaps.
Defender plays passive defense to start.
Once around defender take shot on goal.
Rotate from 1st attacker to overlapper to defender in opposite grid.
Activity "B":
Same as A, but use a diagonal run to get in behind.
Coaching Points:
+ Drive at the defender with speed, but small touches
+ Disguise pass to overlapper - use outside of foot
+ Off-ball attacker needs to read teammates 1st touch to know whether to overlap or diagonal run
Progressions:
+ Go full pressure and full speed
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
Groups of 5
grids of 8x8
Extra balls around grid
4v1 Activity:
4 players on lines around 1 defender.
2 touch mandatory. Must receive with farthest foot.
If defender wins the ball they become attacker. They also get out of middle if someone receives on wrong foot.
Ball back in play in 1-2 seconds.
Coaching Points:
+ Give advice (communicate)
+ Adjacent player MUST slide to nearest cone to create passing angle
3v1:
No touch restrictions, just play keepaway.
Work inside the grid.
Create angles and receive with furthest foot.
Progression:
+ After 4 passes move to a new grid (that's not occupied)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
3 teams of 4 (extra players can be neutral)
Two 20x15 grids separated by channel (as shown)
1 ball
Activity:
1 team on defense sends 2 (progress to 3) defenders into a grid where attacking team plays 5v3. Other 2 defenders stay in channel and try to intercept passes.
If attacking team loses ball, they become defenders (transition).
If attacking team completes 5 passes, they can switch the play to other attacking team.
Coaching Points:
+ Receive with farthest foot. Maximize space. Give advice. Sharpen angles.
+ Identify positions (3 CM + OF + CF) - point out 3 CMs role to maintain the triangle.
+ Opposite field players should be working to maximize space and finding passing lanes.
+ Defenders should be cutting off passing lanes.
+ When defense wins ball they need to quickly play into other side to relieve pressure and get shape
Progressions:
+ Remove pass requirement to allow switching anytime
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
40x20 grid at half
Two teams of 5v5 + 1 neutral
1 ball
Activity:
Team in possession tries to get ball in all 3 zones (wide, middle, wide). If successful, team can transition into final 1/3 and attack goal.
Game is directional as each team attacks one end and defends the other.
Play to full width of field (cones are there to mark zones)
Coaching Points:
+Maximize space
+Face the way you want to play
+Team in possession must take attacking shape - LW, CF, RW, CM, CM (neutral), CB
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
50x40 field
Divide field into 1/3rds
Activity:
Teams play 6v6 (or 7v7).
Play 1-4-1
Ball must visit all 3 zones (wide, middle, wide) before can score.
If not enough success make wide areas No-Tackle zones (for 2 seconds)
Progression:
+ Require to visit all 3 zones in attacking half of field (more pressure)
+ No restrictions, just play
