Warm Up Game rondo (10 mins)

Piggy in the middle

Players 1, 2 and 3 try to pass the ball across the square while player 4 tries to get a defensive touch on the ball (disrupt)

Players are allowed to move around the outside of the square to open side to receive a pass or they can carry the ball away from the defender.

If defender gets a touch on the ball, they change with the player who passed the ball

Focus on defenders positioning themselves to disrupt any clear passes, encourage defenders to keep the head of their stick on the ground, keep body angled to get the pass onto the front stick and try to protect their left foot.

UPGRADE: if defender intercepts the ball, they need to try dribble the ball outside the square while the other players can try to tackle the ball back

Playing through pressure (10 mins)

Starts with a 4 vs 4 in main pitch area. (this can be done in quarter pitch)

Team in possession have to play through the congestion to feed their 3 team mates in their triangle.

The defending side have to build a defensive shape and look to win the ball back.

Whichever team get the ball into their triangle first, turn and attack the goal, back through the congestion with a 7 vs 4 overload.

Defending team will then need to go zonal.

If you have half a pitch -Game always restarts with a 16 yard hit out and from each team inside the triangles.

If not just throw ball in.

Priority reactionary defending (10 mins)

Essence:

- To work on prioritising the attackers, which one is more deadly.

Structure:

- When A passes to B the defenders can start to make a lead to the right channel.- B carries the ball and the four other attackers make leads forward.- Defenders if they win the ball need to carry it over the 25.

Technical Points:

- Who do we prioritise ?- Where do we or should we run to?

- Attackers, how can we utilise the space given. What runs should we make first. Also what can the ball carrier do to help the team out.

Additional:

- You can set up 3 other defenders for when one side finishes to go to the other.

- Or do multiple sets for the defenders before swapping out.

- If you have spare defenders, two can do the out-letting and join in the attack.
