Organisation
In an area 20 yards x 25 yards, set up 7 grids as above. The central grid will measure 12 yards x 12 yards, with the remaining grids as illustrated.
Split players into two teams - 7 yellow players and 7 red players with a neutral player.
Place 3v3 plus the neutral player in the large central grid.
1v1 in the wide grids; and a single player in each of the two top and bottom grids.
Instructions
Objective is to develop possession play with high pressure in limited space and time.
Yellow team to be coached.
The yellow/red CB (5) can enter the strikers zone in front of him, but the red/yellow striker cannot enter his zone. The yellow/red striker can only press the centre back from his own zone with the objective of preventing/intercepting a pass.
If a team completes 6 passes, they get 1 point. If a team passes the ball through all the grids without losing possession then they get 3 points.
The centre backs and side players are limited to 2-3 touches, strikers and neutral player have 1 touch, other players within the main central grid have unlimited touches.
Coaching Points
1. The inside players need to be constantly thinking of changing the direction of play to the outside zones.
2. The side players (especially) need to check away from their markers before moving to receive the ball as they have limited space to play in.
3. Judging whether to play a pass to feet or into space for your teammate is important in this practice.
4. the side players need to be strong in their 1v1 situations (shield the ball from the opponent).
5. The angles, distances and quick/sharp movements of the support players is key to success in this practice.

Objective
To develop the ability to attack in behind the defensive line againmst opponents who use a high defensive line - especially through the use of a driven/lofted diagonal ball from No.6/8.
Organisation
Split players into two teams - 8 red (including GK) and 7 yellow (including GK). Red team to play in a 1-2-3-1; Yellow team to play in a 4-2 and be instructed to play a narrow and compact sliding back 4.
Set up pitch as above. Red team to be coached.
Instructions
Split the pitch into 3 zones.
Shaded zone is a safe zone for the red team - yellow players cannot enter.
The central zone is the the high line defensive zone for the yellow team.
The third zone is the red team attacking zone.
Play always commences from the red team GK. Red team build up play from the back under pressure. The objective is to keep possession under pressure and breakdown this pressure with passes in behind the defensive line. Particular emphasis on diagonal passes in behind the defensive line from no.6 or 8.
Neither team players are allowed to enter the attacking zone until the ball has been playued into the attacking zone. If the yellow team win possession they have 8 passes in which to score. This means that the red team must make a quick transition if they lose the ball.
Coaching Points
1. Decision making of red no.6/8 - when to play the forward pass behind the defensive line; Do they have time to look up or are they being pressed? Can they move to find space to create a little more time in which to make the pass? Accuracy and weight of pass; type of pass- driven/lofted? inside/outside foot?
2. Communication of red no.11/7 as well as the timing of his run.
3. Support from other players once the lofted pass has been made.
4. Decision making of red 7/11 - drive for goal and shoot? or down the line and cross? Type of cross? location? lofted or driven? Lay off/pull back to another player?
5. Factors to take into account in deciding whether to use the diagonal ball over the top? Speed of defensive line? Is there a weakness we can expolit? Do they have a slow player on one side? can we communicate intentions throughout the team.
6. Trigger point for red 7/11 to make his run? as no.6/8 looks up? Watch offside.
7. How can no.7/11 create more space? movement...show to go...?
