Player B applies Cupping technique

Cup Technique
-Once ball is struck avoid as little moviment as possible
-At "Set Position", footwork may need to be adjusted laterally as ball travels
-Keep chest square with the ball and hands need to be brought forward in front of bodyline
-Prepare the hands. Use hads as springs when receiving ball.
-Elbows need to be tucked in, palms facing up and pinkies together.
-Soft hands, strong wrist
-Secure ball
Key points
-Goalkeepers starting position in realtion to the ball
-Movement into the line of ball
-Set position as ball is struck
-Assessment as to which technique will be most appropirate
Common Problems
-Goalkeeper jumping as the catch is made
-Goalkeepers bodyweight going backwards, therefore gk is unbalanced as catch is made
