Set Up
-see above set-up and equipment
-area approx. 25x30 yards (adapt for age/ability/numbers)
-endzones are 5 yards- with one striker in the end zone
-5v5 depending on numbers with 1 neutral player
Activity:
-Players try to pass the ball into the endzones Striker (must stop the ball with control in the endzone to be awarded a goal).
-look to suck the defender in and make a pass to your teammates
Progression
-must look to make the first pass to the neutral player
Coaching Points:
-look for opportunities to progress with the ball - why/when/where?
-use proper technique passing the ball ( ankles locked, part of the ball/foot)
-movement off the ball to create space and support your teammates
-communicate (e.g. tell teammates when they can turn and go).
-close dribbling in tight areas
-accelerate/rwb into open spaces
-use of both feet and all surfaces of feet
-quick decision-making - take your space if it is there
-look to attack defender, suck them in and make pass to open teammate

transition 3vs2 to a 2vs1 (20 mins)
Setup
-half pitch / area practise
-two teams
-bunch of balls
Activity- 3v2 to a 2-1
-coach plays a pass into the attacking team for a 3vs2
-as the ball is played the striker from far end quickly joins the play
-as the ball is played out 2 defenders come out and defend.
-players are looking to combine with the striker in the final third to score
-if attacking team scores restart
-if goalie makes a save the person who shot the ball or lost control of the ball becomes the defender for a 2vs1 going the other way, the other 2 players get quickly get back to their line.
Coaching Points-
-attack the defender with speed
-quick decesion making
-communications
-good passing
-shoot to score
-movement off the ball
-combination with the striker
Defensive side
-quickly get back and defend against the 2vs1
-quickly transition to attack 2vs 1
