Description

Start with a 5 to 10 minute warm up (jog and dynamic stretches) led by the coach helpers

All players to play Sharks and Fishes for 5 to 10mins

Then separate into 3 groups of roughly similar abilities and rotate the players through 3 stations:

  • Ball carrying
  • The square game
  • End zone
Coach helpers to man a station each and stay with that station
If there is time at the end, play larger 5 v 5 games.
We have plenty of content (maybe too much), so will adapt as we go along.

Sharks and fishes (10 mins)

A variation on bull dog

Play across the pitch (can make shorter with a stip line if needed)

Fishes line up on a line

3 sharks are nominated

Fishes must try and get to the other side of the area without being tagged

Sharks try and tag the fish

Once a fish is tagged, they become a piece of seaweed and must stand still where tagged for the remainder of the game

Play until all fish have been tagged

Variation

When a fish is tagged they become a shark rather than a piece of seaweed

End zone tournament (20 mins)

3v3 or 4v4

Teams score by passing the ball to a player on theri team in the End Zone

When a team scores, they retain possession and turn and attack in the other direction.

Work on positional awareness, height options, change of pace, moving the ball forward.

Note: players can only move into their own attacking end zone, players can move in and out of their attacking end zone, but must complete a pass into the end zone to score.

Change It: If the teams are struggling, add a magic player who plays for whichever side is in possession

Change It: Each player must get a touch on the ball before they can score in the End Zone

Change It: Players may only use push passes and if they sweep/hit then they lose possession

Change It: If a player gets hit on the feet, they have to replace the End Zone player immediately
