Description

Session Objective:

Create the habits of the players trying to progress up the field in a 2v2 situation in order to understand how to exploit it. This can then be applied on the second practice where they receive and build to goals, looking to create numerical advantages

2v1 to 2v2: Pressure in Front (30 mins)

Org.:

- 16x20 yards; 3 lines total to start (4 when 2v2); balls on the central defender's side; 3 x 4 minutes (2v1); 4 x 3 minutes (2v2)

Instructions:

- Defenders roll the ball out of their feet and play a pass across the field to the attacker then pressure. Attackers go 2v1, but cannot score until they cross the halfway line. If defenders win the ball, they look to dribble out at the opposite end-line. Players rotate lines clockwise (no set teams yet)

Coaching Points:

- Engage or look to shoot (player with the ball)

- Disorganize and distract by moving (player without the ball)

- How do we break the lines/pressure?

- Speed of play (fast to beat the opponent)

Variation:

- 2 1v1's commence at the same time, where attackers are attempting to score in the pugs

4v3+1 and GK: Build-Up (30 mins)

Org.:

- Full width x ~35 yards; two teams of players (5 on focus, 3 on non-focus); 4 x 3 minutes

Instructions:

- Ball begins with pass from non-focus team, who plays through to defenders/GK. Players look to build attack using GK and score in small goals higher up the field. If defending team wins the ball, they go to goal right away. Neutral player starts with focus team and should possession change, they begin to attack

Progression:

- Variation: Starting point of wide players is out wide - if they struggle to build this will give them a good set point to begin their attacks

Coaching Points/Questions:

- Head up, eyes up

- Make the field big once we have gained possession (already set th

- Take care of ball in own half and progress patiently whilst moving the ball quickly

- How can we break lines?

- How can we create 2v1s against the opponent?

Variation:

- Transitionary Moment: Defending team recovers to begin play
