Technical Warm Up (15 mins)

Set Up: two 30*30 grids, each with a goal. Supply of balls along one of the sides. 3 Cones marking stations along the sides without the goal.

Players: two teams - 8-9 players per grid + one GK (if available).

Description: Player A passes to player B who gives it back to player A on a Wall Pass. Player C then receives with a good first touch and quickly plays player D who receives the ball and dribbles into a small grid to deliver the ball either driven or crossed to player B who has properly timed their run. Player B can finish by heading or vollley or ball on the ground in goal. Player A goes to B and B goes to C and C goes to D and D goes to A.

Progressions: Go one way and then change direction. Have next player A start the next rotation when the ball is moving towards D. Can add Wall Pass from D as well as an overlap.

Key Factors:

Weight of pass

First touch

Verbal and visual cues

Timing of run / patience

Target (20 mins)

Set Up: 30*40 grid, with cones marking the half way line. Supply of balls along the outside.

Players: two teams - 7 blue vs. 7 red. Substitute players intermittently.

Description: Blue plays 6v6 vs. Red, each team with a target player on the end lines. Objective is for each team to play their target player when in possession. Teams earn double the points if they can hit their target player BEFORE the half way line via a driven ball or cross. Upon scoring, possession goes to the other team.

Progression: All points must be scored before the halfway line. Target players become neutral and game transitions in both directions.

Questions: How can we score early (look forward)? How can we find an opening (drag an opponent away)?

Key Factors:

Possession and good first touch.

Patience / creating chances.

Verbal / visual cues.

Crossing technique.

Movement off the ball.
