This session will look to improve an individuals ability to perform a defensive header.
A Feeds a high ball to B, B heads a ball over the top of A into Cs hand.
Coaching Points -
Head the bottom third of the ball
Use your arms to project your jump
Side on to the ball
Meet ball at highest point
Progression-
Player C plays feed to player B
Player A becomes a passive attacker looking to win the ball
Focus is on player Bs timing of jump as well as not being underneath ball and timing jump to beat A.
Offensive player scores by heading it past the defending player. The defening player scores if the can head it to the side oustide of the cones or back to the player serving the ball.

Soccer Tennis
Players will play the game and indirectly train their ability to control the ball while it is in the air.

Organization:8 playes (2v2) game. 6 x 10 Grid. 2v2 in the center of grid. 4 palerys outside
Instructions:Outside player tosses 1 ball to their team to head toward opposing team score (cross the line). Defensive team scores by heading back towards tossing player (line).
Progression: have players toss the ball from the ends of the grid like a cross from the corner or tocuh line.

Defending Crosses
Setup - Use the penalty area, extending the area to about 25 – 30 yards out. There are a total of 9 Players, two defenders, a goalkeeper and three attackers. On the right and left hand side of the 18 yard area are two servers and another server in front of the penalty area, about 25 yards out. The servers are numbered, can move to vary the angle of serve and must serve the ball by throwing it. The coach calls which server will throw the ball to give the defenders and goalkeeper time to set themselves. The defenders and goalkeeper defend the crosses and the attacker tries to score.
Coaching Points - 1. Communication between defenders and GK
2. Defenders work as a pair, one attack the ball,one cover
3. Start position in relation to where the ball is served from
4. Get in the line and attack the ball down the line of the cross
5. Timing of run and jump
6. Select relevant defensive heading technique
7. After defensive header, readjust and reorganise
8.Squeeze up the pitch if possible after the ball has been headed clear

Organization: 7v7 players will be set up in a 2-3-1 two formation to encourage potential heading situraitons.
Instructions: Players will follow the laws of the game.

Organization: 4v4 w/ 2 keepers 18yd box
Instructions:4v4 played just like ultimate frisbee player tosses the ball to teamate (2 step max) Goals must be scored with head. Yell shot to identify it is not a pass. Shots on goal can only be caught by goalies.
Coaching Points:
1. Communication between defenders and GK
2. Defenders work as a pairs, one attack the ball, one cover
3. movment off of the ball be aware.
5. Timing of run and jump
6. Select relevant defensive heading technique
7. After defensive header, readjust and reorganize.
