Arrival Activity (10 mins)

Players work in a pair, with 1 ball between each pair.

Each pair chooses a coloured set of gates to use as their goals (one pair per colour, 2 goals per colour).

One player tries to score by dribbling through one of the gates, whilst their partner tries to win the ball from them. If they win it, they try to score.

If the ball goes out or a goal is scored, switch possession.

Remove the gates from the arrival activity with players now just keeping possession against their defender who tries to win the ball off them.

Coach calls a player to dribble out of the grid and play a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Once the player shoots, they collect their ball and dribble back into their grid.

GK to close down quickly

Make yourself big, goal smaller

Watch the ball, pounce on heavy touch

Still a regular game, looking to create chances and score goals using team mates but stay in your zones, defend by winning your 1v1.

Play for 5 minutes, then players rotate zones.

Wide players become striker/defender.

Striker/defender become central players.

Central players become wide players.

Coaching points:

1v1 battles in a team environment. On a matchday we don't win enough battles, this is our chance to practice it in a match environment.
