Set Up: Pitch size dependent on intensity. 2 large goals at each end with 4 small goals in middle of area, 2 facing each goal. GK in each goal, 4/5 Def plays attackers, Bounce players on outside to link play. Reds look to retain possession & score in either of the 4 mini goals in middle, Blues look to provide a block of small goals & identify opportunities to press to win ball & score in large goals. 

Defending Key Points: 

  • Defensive shape to provide a block & prevent opportunities to score in target goals.
  • Work as a unit to defend and identify opportunities to press & win the ball.
  • Transition to attack, can you score, pass to someone who can or retain possession to create opportunities to score.
  • Possession
  • Quick movement of the ball to create opportunities 
  • Can we score? Can we be patient and  move the ball in attempt to split defenders & create space to play through.
  • Angles of support from teammates

Set Up: As shown above with 2 middle link players, shooting players ball each. Reds work in pairs to link up with blues playing 1-2's & overlapping runs for a shot at goal. Rotate Blues and work both sides. 

Progressions: Depending on numbers can add crosses into the box from wide players (Yellow)

Key Points:

  • Quality & detail of passes into blues feet & then into Reds runs so that the play is not slowed down.
  • Movement to receive passes and quick overlapping runs
  • Timing of forward runs to keep onside, stay behind the ball & to meet the pass for the shot to generate power & accuracy.
  • Quality of finishes.
