Protecting Zone 14 - Function (30 mins)
Organisation
Defensive 1-4-1 formation defending against 1-3-1 attacking formation
Zone 14 indicated by flat discs to give defenders a guide where they want to dictate the play away from.
Slightly narrower than full width pitch, forces play towards zone 14. Also makes it slightly easier for defenders while working on their positioning, before making it more difficult in SSG.
Inverted wingers for attackers, so they will want to play towards zone 14, challenges defenders.
Key Factors
Narrow/Compact - Do not allow space in central areas.
Play High when possible, limit space 'between lines' in zone 14
Nearest man pressure - cover/balance positions of rest of the unit.
Show in to wide areas/backwards wherever possible.
#4 try to stop ball getting into number #10.
Do not allow #10 to receive turned, and dictate play in Zone 14
Communication, keep each other in position. Pass on players, e.g. pass #10 onto #4 if drops deep.
