Checking in to Receive (15 minutes)
Set Up
- set up 2 sessions, 5-6 players per session in a rectangle
- 2 green defenders, 2 blue midfielders, 2 red neutral players
- one ball
Instructions
- Neutral player plays the ball into blue
- To score a point the blue team needs to move the ball from one end to the next (to a red player)
- If the green defending team wins the ball, they become the midfielders
- Rotate neutral player colour every 5 minutes
Coaching points
- Create width to stretch defenders and force decision making under pressure
- Check out/in to receive the ball under pressure
- First touch away from pressure, head up and pass
- Encourage interplay between the midfielders (short passing) and red players (long passing)
- Creation of passing lanes, seeing the player, ball and anticipating the passing option to get good body shape
